Shree Jagannath Temple

Shree Jagannath Temple of Puri is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath, a form of Vishnu, in Puri in the state of Odisha on the eastern coast of India. . The present temple was rebuilt from the 10th century onwards, on the site of an earlier temple, and begun by Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva, the first king of the Eastern Ganga dynasty. The Puri temple is one of the Char Dham. This temple is renowned for its annual “Rath Yatra” or chariot festival on second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh Maas (second day in bright fortnight of ashadha month). The festivals commemorates Lord Jagannath’s accompanied with Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, annual visit to Gundicha Temple via Mausi Maa Temple (maternal aunt herne) near Saradha Bali, Puri. After a stay for seven days, the deities return to their abode. The image of all the deities is made of wood and is ceremoniously replaced every twelve as 19 years by on exact replica. Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are the principal deities worshipped at the temple. The inner sanctum of the temple contains statues of these there Gods carved from sacred neem logs known as daru sitting on ratnabedi, a bejewelled platform, along with the statues of sudarshana chakra, Madan Mohan, Sridevi and adorned with different clothing and jewels according to the season. Facts about the temple : The Flag Story The flag at top the temple strangely always floats in the opposite direction of wind. The flag floating in opposite direction brings your scientific reasoning to a halt, and you just tend to believe that there is some force more powerful than science. An 1800 years old Ritual A priest climbs the dome of the temple which stands as tall as a 45 story building and changes the flag every day For 1800 years as a part of a ritual. If it is not changed any day, the temple must be shut for the next 18 years. The Sudarshan Chakra The Sudarshan Chakra standing at the top of the temple is 20 feet in height and weighs a ton. It said to be visible from every corner of the city and it is installed in such a way that it makes you feel that it is facing toward you irrespective of the place you are in. No planes, no birds fly above the temple It is very strange to see that nothing flies above the temple. No planes, not even birds. There is no scientific explanation for this yet. The temple structure The structure of the temple is such that it does not cast any shadow at any given time of the day. It still remains to be deciphered whether it is an engineering marvel or a phenomenon that can be attributed only to the divine force.

 The Mystery Of The Simhadwaram

There is an ocean near the temple. When you’re entering the Simhadwaram (The main door) of the temple you can clearly hear the sound of the ocean, now once you passed the Simhadwaram just take a turn and walk back in the same direction you came. You cannot hear the ocean until you come out of the temple. The sea mystery In any part of the world, you must have witnessed that during daytime, the wind from sea comes to the land, whereas the wind from the land blows toward sea at evening. However, in Puri, the geographical laws are also reversed. Here, just the opposite thing happens. The Mystery of Prasadam There’s one saying about the prasad served in the temple. The count of devotees visiting the temple varies from 2000 to 20,00000 depending on the day but the quantity of Prasadam cooked in the temple remains exactly the same throughout the year any given day yet none of it goes insufficient or wasted. The cooking technique of prasadam Pots are actually used to cook this special delicacy using firewood. 7 pots are used for this and they are placed one on top of another. Interesting to note here is that the contents of the topmost pot gets cooked first, followed by the bottom pots.
